Dogfighting investigations present unique challenges for law enforcement and prosecutors. During this 1.5 hour course, we will review the relationship between dogfighting and other violent criminal activity, relevant Ohio and federal laws, a review of key evidence and investigative techniques and prosecution preparation.
Janette Reever is the Senior Specialist Global Anti-Dogfighting expert for Humane Society International. She has been recognized as an expert in both state and federally court as expert of animal fighting and cruelty in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Australia. She has trained over 6,500 law enforcement officers in animal fighting investigations throughout the United States, Australia, Mexico, and Latin America. Reever has appeared in numerous media pieces, coauthored several publications about dogfighting, and building cases with federal law enforcement.
Before coming to HSI she was the Senior Manager of Animal Crimes for HSUS for nine years. She has 23 years of experience in the field and is extremely knowledgeable about dogfighting, cockfighting, and other forms of animal fighting. Reever provides guidance to law enforcement on best practices for implementation of animal welfare laws and investigation of cases of animal cruelty and fighting. She is considered one of the nation’s leading experts in dogfighting and their international ties.
